“We had no idea that 20 years later, we would be here. We thank God for what he has done and what he’s going to do.” – Pearlie Shelton, Karl Anderson [#WeThankGod]

Upper Room Ministries Sunday celebrated two decades of being a congregation of soldiers in the army of the Lord that delivers strong ministry to the community.

During the drive-up service broadcast via Facebook Live held at the church at 3575 NE 15th St., dozens of parishioners dressed in purple and gold shirts lifted up praise to the Lord for allowing the church to continue to grow in its mission to serve the Gainesvile community.

“We had no idea that 20 years later, we would be here. We thank God for what he has done and what he’s going to do.”
– Shepherdess Pearlie Shelton, who serves as senior pastor of the church, along with her nephew, Superintendent Karl Anderson

Karl Anderson said he appreciates how the church’s members have not ceased in their commitment to support the ministry in all of its efforts to serve the community and the body of Christ.

“It’s been wonderful doing service for you for 20 years. Ministry is not easy, but it’s worth it.”
– Karl Anderson said as people watched on in their cars

People began honking their horns for the people who got saved during the service.

Karl Anderson delivered the sermon, and the title of it was

“From Underdog to Big Dog.”

“You can’t kill what God has ordained.”
– Karl Anderson

Karl Anderson referenced I Samuel 17:29-32 and described David’s strength to continue fighting.

Karl Anderson recalled people counting the church out before it got started.

“They counted us out before 20 years. They said we wouldn’t last for six months.”
– Karl Anderson

Karl Anderson said that God prepares us for the journey he has ordained for us.

“David had fight in him. He had the faith to fight the challenge. If God is for us, who can be against us.”
– Karl Anderson

Karl Anderson said the church must continue to serve the community.

“As a church we cannot be idle. We have to vote and be active. After 20 years, we ain’t seen nothing yet. We have a mission we must complete. We are bold soldiers in the army of the Lord. We still have more work to do in the community. If he ordained me, he will not let me down.”
– Karl Anderson

Karl Anderson said his mission to continue doing the Lord’s work will not end anytime soon.

“There’s nothing we can’t do when God is on our side. We’re just getting started. We’ve fought a good fight, but we are still on the course. There are new devils on every level. I’m ready to keep fighting and keep running for Jesus.”
– Karl Anderson

Pearlie Shelton described how the ministry started in her living room for 4 months before moving services to a union hall, and then to its current location.

“They said we wouldn’t be here today and we’re still standing. God’s going to strengthen you even in the midst of what you are going through.”
– Pearlie Shelton
